A case of chronic lymphocytic leukemia is presented together with a review of the
literature. A 55 year old Korean man was admitted to the department of internal
medicine of Korea University on April 28 th, 1986 because of progressive jaundice and
weight loss.
Laboratory findings disclosed hemoglobin 10.1 gm/ml, platelets 182,000/3
and WBC 142,000/mm3. Peripheral blood smear revealed 70% of smudge
cells and 28% of lymphocyte, but 98% of the cells were lymphocytes on 22f
albumin-treated smear. Bone marrow aspiration showed almost all nucleated cells were
lymphocytes and prolymphocytes. Most of the peripheral blood and tone marrow
lymphocytes had B-cell markers.
The patient was placed on chlorambucil and prednisone but had no improvement of
general symptoms and signs. And then, after admission 18 lays, the patient was died.
